Oh, Joy!

This week is going to be full of fun in the Starkey household! Some of my family will be here by Thursday and we are going to eat Thanksgiving lunch/dinner together and watch the Cowboys game. I am going to start cooking tomorrow night and then bake Mammy's fudge pies on Thursday morning! I am beyond excited to have Thanksgiving in our first home! We are also going to shop Friday - yes, we are crazy - and take Braxton on the train in Grapevine to see Santa and drink hot chocolate. I love this time of year and can't wait to share lots of pictures :)

11.13.11

Yesterday, Slone and I celebrated 13 years of being together since November 13, 1998. That seems like forever ago when I type that year! Granted, we were only 12 and 13 years old at the time I was head over heels for him and still am to this day! I remember seeing him for the first time in 7th grade at McMurray Junior High thinking to myself, "I want him to be my boyfriend!" Eventually that happened and I will never forget where we were and how it happened.

Where: Alexandria's birthday party, Brentwood Downs apartment clubhouse
Who was there: All of our friends
When: November 13, 1998
How did it happen: He motioned to me from across the room to meet him outside. I remember it was very cold! We walked outside where he proceeded to ask me to be his girlfriend! I know it sounds silly to those reading this now but for a 12 (almost 13) year old girl this was very exciting! :) Apparently everyone else knew what was happening because they were stuck to the window watching our every move - LOL! After I told him that I would be his girlfriend, we went back inside and stayed for the rest of the party.

13 years is a long time to get to know someone. Most of you know that Slone is from Texas and I'm from Tennessee, so there were many years that he moved back and forth from state to state and we faced separation from one another. It was heartbreaking back then and it hurts now to think about how sad it always made me. Today, it makes me even more thankful to call him my husband and to know that I won't have to face that anymore.

Road Trip!

Slone, Jill, Kirk, and myself went to Austin for the UT / Tech game. I had never been before and was pretty excited to take a short trip away for the day. On the way we passed Baylor, which is one of our good friend's alma mater and a little placed called The Czech Bakery. Can I just say that this bakery smells divine!! The game was awesome, except for the fact that Kirk is a diehard Tech fan and if any of you watched the game, well, you know how he felt...Nonetheless, the weather was amazing and we ate popcorn and candy and sipped on some nice cold Coca Cola during the game. Afterwards, we ate at Guerro's, a little Mexican place off Congress. It was so good and we all left very full and tired! Before we headed back to Mansfield, Jill showed us around 6th street and we drove by the capitol. Overall, it was a fun day and I'm glad we got to take a road trip with the in-loves ;)

Mom and son with opposing gear on :) Her hand sign is supposed to represent both teams! LOL
